A colleague, Brett Westwood, has just reminded me that this weekend, in fact tomorrow is National Moth Night. http://www.nationalmothnight.info/
And as a reminder of this he sent this note.Lots of these moths, Pyrausta aurata emerging in garden today. They feed on mint and related plants. Small, but great colours.
And I have to agree with Brett, this is one "Bobby Dazzler" Moth, which I don't think I've seen before. I know very little about moths, but as the weather looks set fine this weekend, I think I may have to spend an evening in the garden seeing what comes along, could be fun after a cider or 2 (at least that way I'll be seeing double the number) !!
Cracking pic of a cracking little moth.
ReplyDeleteThanks Dean but you have to thank Brett for that. One day I must ask you how you get your blue backgrounds behind your moth photos, very effective. Guess it's photoshop or something?
ReplyDeleteVery cool...I wish we had this in the US! (Found you via Nature Remains)
ReplyDeleteCheers Dave good to have you drop by. I'm trying to remember who Nature Remains are. Hope to see you back here again.
ReplyDeleteHi Border.
ReplyDeleteThe blue background is a small piece of ply that i colour stained. The finished paint effect is done with Virtual Painter.
I just think it adds that something extra.
Hi Dean,
ReplyDeleteThanks. It sure does add something extra, very effective... now where's that pile of off cut wood in the garage?
A wonderful nature blog! Beautiful moth - also like all the butterfly pictures, and the bugs. The mosquito I know very well - there are gazillions here.
ReplyDeleteThanks April for dropping by. And I like the ford Gazillions for describing mozzies.
ReplyDeleteI tell you what, when it gets past 10pm and the cider has done it's stuff I can't spell (or spelling gets worse)... sorry April, meant Word!! Where on earth did ford come from?
