Just been re-reading a fellow wildlife blogger, Jane's blog, and her trip to Brownsea with the Dorset Wildlife Trust. And as bats aren't something which come along regularly in the blogging community and I enjoyed her posting so much, I thought I'd add a link, so those of you who don't know her site or the work there can have a peek. Great stuff

Thanks for the plug! I've actually been out in the garden tonight being bombarded by five Pipistrelle. The detector was nearly jumping out of my hands it was so noisy! I never realised I had so many bats in my back garden! Makes you wonder how many there really are countrywide.
ReplyDeleteThat's a good point Jane. Ever since I moved into this new build house, I've noticed bats in the summer. Presumably they formerly move from their winter communal roosts to this area, and continued to do so once the houses were built. Bats tend to have a number of summer roosting sites which they move around depending on the weather etc. I spend many an evening watching. There's also a good spot in Henstridge, where large numbers of bats fly along a lane, quite spectacular.
ReplyDeleteKeep the posts coming.
How wonderful, the bats are so beautiful. Jane is very lucky to be able to experience this. Would love to do it myself. Tried to leave a comment on Janes blog but it didn't work.
ReplyDeleteHi Oldcrow, shame you can't comment on her blog, it may be because you're abroad. Hope she reads this.
