Can I interest anyone in a short walking experiment I wonder? I'm interested in sound and how this affects the natural world. However we humans are part of this natural world too - do we understand sound and what it does to us?
I'm therefore interested in knowing is anyone would be interested in a walk with a difference? Walking in silence. Interested?
If you are I may do this down on the Somerset Levels in early September in the morning/or evening on the 9th (or 10th) depending on the weather. I can confirm further details if I get any takers. And if you're wondering what the plan is, then although very much informal, we'd meet and I'll suggest what I hope will happen, then we'll set off for a walk in silence for around 45 minutes, then a collective de-brief. And that's it and you can then go an enjoy the Levels.
This is just something I'm interested in doing and may lead to something else, but for the moment I'm just looking for some guinea pigs to test out thoughts in an informal and I hope enlightening experiment.
Leave me a comment if you're interested either here or on Twitter @Wessex_Reiver
I'm interested, but could only come if I could persuade someone to give me a lift as it's a weekday and David would be at work. I always notice far more when I am out on my own as I find it almost impossible not to chat when I'm in company.
ReplyDeleteThanks Gill, more on this soon. I've had a suggestion from someone whether I ask people to do it in their own time on one day and then discuss. Might be difficult to discuss, but we'll see. I thought weekends may be too busy, but agree during the week is problematic.
ReplyDeleteWhat a shame I live so far away, I would love to do this. Our favourite thing is listening to trees, my other half read somewhere that you can tell the tree species by the sound the wind makes in the leaves/branches.
ReplyDeleteI'd be happy to do a walk and a blog post on what I heard.
A very good idea, a walk without chatter, phones, dogs and just be 1 with your surroundings. Hope you get a nice group of walkers. wish I could be there! I'm sure you will want to do it again afterwards.
