RSPB support number 1 and Somerset Arts

Here's a bit of festive cheer. The RSPB are joining into a campaign to get The Trashmen's 'Surfin' Bird' track to the number one spot this Christmas.

Staff at the RSPB's HQ have made a video, which is you would like some festive cheer, is well worth watching here.

On another note, TakeArt the Somerset arts website has set up a petition to send to Somerset Country Council after they have pulled the Arts Week funding following recent cuts. The petition has topped 6,000 signatures, but if you would like to support this, a link to the website is here.

  1. I read the blurb about people finding barn owls dead this time of year. What with this awful early winter weather it is no wonder that they are having trouble surviving. It is quite cold here too. During the Christmas Bird count I helped on yesterday we checked a barn owl roosting box to find no owl in it. Sad to think it might be out during the day still looking for dinner.

  2. Hi Lisa, Barn owls in particular really suffer when there's snow on the ground. I noticed that the RSPB are recommending taking all barn owls found in the countryside into wildlife sancturies. They were badly affected by last winter and it is this years young which are suffering now, unable to use experience older birds have of good hunting areas.
