Swift Cricket

Well an interesting day was had yesterday (and tomorrow for that)

I found myself in Sussex with a colleague to do a live broadcast for Saving Species on the capture of field crickets. These rare native crickets at the northern edge of their range are endangered, and so a small number are being relocated to an RSPB site tomorrow. Yesterday however it was a capture day and the results of being there can be heard here;

If you'd like to know more about Saving species from the BBC website, it can be found here

Finally, tonight while sitting in the garden and having a cup of tea, my first screaming swifts over the house. One swallow does not make a summer, but screaming swifts definitely do bring a sense of long evenings to my mind.

Things that go boing in the night

Okay, after months of not posting, today I'm posting another short piece after being traumatised by the attached image !!

After the stress of whether I should or should not mention my new lady friend on the blog, I informed her of this new venture on the blog and that she has been named (almost) and shamed..... I survived relatively intact.
Then later in the evening I received this photo she took while gardening (she's a professional gardener) at a place she was at yesterday afternoon.

Worrying......... but it had to be put on the blog for all to see!!

Thank you Goosey

Hello,

Well it's been a long time. And thanks to an e-mail from Goosey she pricked my conscience that I'd been AWOL for far too long from the blog. If any of you can identify her strange contraption she'll be pleased.

Work and a changing lifestyle are to blame... that's my excuse anyway and I'm sticking to it. Since December a lot has changed with me, new house, new development in my job and a new lady friend.... I hope she doesn't mind me mentioning her, though not by name just yet. I've swapped Dorset for Wiltshire at the weekend and enjoying exploring a county I knew almost nothing about until February, Marlborough being a new venture for me and very nice it is too.

The two photos here were taken in early March on a walk across Pewsey Downs.... not sure sure who that idiot is but he looks like a Wiltshire denizen.

So now I've written something again, there's no excuse not to write more. And I will just as soon as I can.

Life moves in many a mysterious way
