Swift Cricket

Well an interesting day was had yesterday (and tomorrow for that)

I found myself in Sussex with a colleague to do a live broadcast for Saving Species on the capture of field crickets. These rare native crickets at the northern edge of their range are endangered, and so a small number are being relocated to an RSPB site tomorrow. Yesterday however it was a capture day and the results of being there can be heard here;

If you'd like to know more about Saving species from the BBC website, it can be found here

Finally, tonight while sitting in the garden and having a cup of tea, my first screaming swifts over the house. One swallow does not make a summer, but screaming swifts definitely do bring a sense of long evenings to my mind.

  1. I love the sound of crickets (not the leather on willow one) and the sound reminds me of walking through the meadows in Switzerland in late May, the Crickets are so loud there!I will find the programme on BBCi if I can
